Old Police Residence, Jika Street, Heidelberg, is a single storey bluestone structure believed to have been erected circa 1860, presumably to designs by the Public Works Department of Victoria. Asymmetrically composed, the structure has a projecting wing, with twelve-pane sash, quoins and window surrounds. There is a timber verandah arranged in four bays. The complex of former Police buildings at Chiltern was erected in 1873 by the Public Works Department and consist of police quarters, stables and a lock-up. The buildings were designed by H A Williams who was at that time the Clerk of Works in charge of north-eastern Victoria.
